kernel 6.17.0-40 issues

kernel 6.17.0-40 issues

My professional laptop Dell Precision is under Noble 24.04 installed after delivery (delivered under Jammy).

I am french so I used fr (bepo) keyboard layout.

I stay with X11 to use Gimp, have no issue with web-conferencing app …

Early may

I still had kernel update (6.17.0-22) that switched me under wayland and qwerty keyboard layout, I run in CLI: setxkbmap fr bepo that returns me: WARNING: Running setxkbmap against an Xwayland server, I swithed back to kernel 6.17.0-20 and X11.

This morning (17th jully)

After a first use, my laptop locked up after being idle for a while, then when I entered my password, I can't connect… it switched to qwerty. I also connect to the docking station to have external screen, but it stayed black, no external screen detected in display parameters. I had no more wifi connection, I should connect by cable.

I didn't find under grub connection to switch back to X11, so I switched in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf the WaylandEnable=false, but if I switch with success to X11, I still had no wifi, external screen.

As mentionned by @steeldriver, the question about how to define keyboard layout under wayland has got answer at https://askubuntu.com/a/1566428/385361

Finally, I switched back to previous kernel, linux-image-6.17.0-35-generic/noble instead of 6.17.0-40 and could began my working day ! It is more a workaround than a solution !

And several days later, as @guiverc mentionned, an update to linux-image-7.0.0-28-generic seems ok (rights now, still in X11)
