Transit at Athens airport

Transit at Athens airport

I am holder of an Egyptian passport, will be travelling from Cairo, Egypt to Tirana, Albania via Aegean airlines making a transit of 2 hours in Athens. Do I need a transit visa? Thank you!

Top Answer/Comment:

Egyptian passport holders don't require a transit visa for Greece, as long as they stay in the international transit area of the airport. Therefore if your flights are on one booking and you don't need to enter Greece, you don't need a transit visa. If you have two separate bookings, or if you need to collect and re-check baggage, then you would need a visa to enter Greece - that is, not a transit visa but a full type C visa.

There are two lists of nationalities which require transit visas for countries in the Schengen zone; one which applies for all countries in Schengen, and one which is for additional requirements for certain countries. Egypt is not on the first list (no general requirement), and on the second list you can see that an Egyptian national requires a transit visa for a transit in Czechia, Spain, Poland and Romania.
